Fandry's
Mo Minky
(i.e. MoMe)
...written by MoMe's Mommy
MoMe is our little angel dog child. He's a
full blooded standard size Pomeranian and
his AKA registered name is Fandry's Mo Minky.
He was born on March 11, 1997 and adopted
us as parents just six weeks later. Because
he was so young when we brought him home,
we would wake up every three hours during the night and feed him a tablespoon
of cottage cheese (organic, of course), for
over two weeks. Needless to say, cottage cheese
is now one of his favorite foods.
Scott had dogs growing up but my mom wouldn't
let us have animals, so Mo's my first dog
and I'm just gone over him. He's the absolute
love of our life.
About Our Little MoMe Dog...
First
of all, the last thing he thinks is that he's
little.
Having
said that, we thought you might like to know
a few things about Mo. He's quite opinionated
and can be very cat like. We jokingly say
he's half cat and half dog. If you're petting
him and he's done, he'll just turn around
and walk away.
Speaking of petting him, he really likes to
do "meet and greets" with "his
people" (our friends/customers), and
everyone absolutely loves him! We actually
have people come in and bring their friends
just to see him. He's a real sweetie...
These are a few of Mo's favorite things...
One of his favorite things to do is go for
a walk with Scott in the morning, afternoon
and evening. Naturally
he likes to pee everywhere, and scouting for
other animals that may be in his general vicinity
is a must. He's not so sure about other dogs,
so having a bark-fest once a sighting is made
seems to be the best course of action.
Every few days Mo really enjoys playing "chase
me with the empty toilet paper roll in my
mouth" game, and totally loves his nightly
"run away with the dirty sock" ritual,
it's the best! He's funny, too, because he
never used to dig in the yard, but lately
he's taken to it like a real dog! Fortunately
though, he doesn't dig up my flowers and is
very particular about where he makes his little
"growling holes" (you know, you
have to go in there and make a big production
out of it, by grunting and growling and kicking
dirt backwards in every direction).
And...not so favorite...
One of his least favorite things to do is
to get brushed, which is what happens every
morning before his first outing. It
goes something like this: Scott grabs the
brush, Mo takes a run for it in the other
direction, Scott goes after him and says "don't
growl at me" as he picks him up, then
lays him down and gives him his daily torture...
well at least that's how Mo sees at it. The
whole time he's being groomed, he moans and
groans and acts like he's falling apart. The
second they're done though, he's up and ready
to go! It's really something to see. (My favorite
part is watching him run for the hills thinking
he can actually get away...it cracks me up!)
Rumor has it...
Our employees joke about Mo having better
health care than they do and eating better,
too. Well, I think we may all be in that group.
Yes, Mo eats well...we cook him food for every
meal and it's all organic and very clean.
His favorite foods (as I mentioned before)
are cottage cheese, bread (though he doesn't
get it very often) and raw meat. He likes
vegetables too, like green beans, broccoli,
and oh, the crunchy ribs of romaine lettuce,
those are really yummy. He likes bites of
bananas and almonds when Scott has an afternoon
snack. What doesn't he like to eat? Hmmmm...he
used to like oranges, but has since changed
his mind.
Acupuncture Anyone?
About Mo's health care, okay, it's good. But
we adore him and wish all people and animals
could live like he does.
When Mo was only a year old, we found out
he had hip displaysia, bad knees and arthritis.
When the veterinarian showed us the x-rays
and told us what was going on, and that he'd
likely need hip surgery, I immediately excused
myself, went outside and burst into tears.
He was just so little and precious, I couldn't
stand it!
When
he was five he had his first seizure, it was
awful. We realized very soon that "typical"
vet thinking was a lot like "typical"
doctor thinking. Throw a band aide on it and
watch it go from bad to worse. It was at that
time that I set out on my quest for an alternative
thinking vet. Thankfully I found one, which
brings us back up to the present.
Once a month Mo goes to see Dr. Bebe Signe'
for acupuncture and his daily dose of Chinese
herbs, which we put in his food. The acupuncture
helps the pain he has in his hips from the
arthritis, and the herbs have really curbed
the seizures. Before the herbs, he had begun
having multiple seizures per day. Now he may
have one once a week or every other week.
It's really been amazing!
A
word about Pome's...
Mo did end up having to have hip surgery several
years ago. It was probably one of the best
things we did for him. Prior to it he was
having a hard time standing up, and afterwards
it becamemuch
easier for him. A word about Pome's though,
they inherently have hip and knee problems.
It comes with the breed and though it's sad
and costly, if you love Pome's you just deal
with it the best you can.
Long Story Short...
Some people may think I'm crazy for going
on and on about Mo, but so be it. I could
keep going and very well may add more later,
but for now I'm going to close. Long story
short, he's an angel. Adorable, cute, fluffy,
funny, loveable, ornery, pig headed and a
pure joy to have around.
MoMe is hoping to see you in the shop
soon!
